NEW EDITION WITH INTRODUCTION FROM THE BROOKE SOCIETY
"Very pleased to see that, unlike many of the other versions available, this edition has not just been scanned and printed but completely reset, and is a much higher quality as a result. Lorna Beckett's great, all-new introduction gives an interesting and informative perspective of a fascinating character whose work had so much potential. A beautifully produced edition, well done!"
THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION
Brooke has continued to fascinate people of all ages and walks of life ever since his untimely death en route to Gallipoli on St George’s Day 1915, at the age of 27. He lived his short life with intensity – he was not only a poet, but also a scholar, dramatist, literary critic, travel writer, political activist and soldier. Brooke had a large circle of friends, many of them leading figures of their generation including Virginia Woolf, Winston Churchill and W. B. Yeats.COMPLETE EDITION OF ALL BROOKE POEMS
Oh, is the water sweet and cool,
Gentle and brown, above the pool?
And laughs the immortal river still
Under the mill, under the mill?
Say, is there Beauty yet to find?
And Certainty? and Quiet kind?
Deep meadows yet, for to forget
The lies, and truths, and pain?… oh! yet
Stands the Church clock at ten to three?
And is there honey still for tea?
The Old Vicarage, Grantchester

"Rupert Brooke's poetry has been my companion since my early teens. I used to know several poems by heart (Dust) and in later and more mature years, I have fallen in love with it, as well as with his personality. I have always been impressed by his inspiration and sensitivity. Such a short life! Who knows how far he could have arrived had he lived longer?"

- Rupert Brooke's poetry has been my companion since my early teens. I used to know several poems by heart (Dust) and in later and more mature years, I have fallen in love with it, as well as with his personality. I have always been impressed by his inspiration and sensitivity. Such a short life! Who knows how far he could have arrived had he lived longer?
- My only problem is that I seem unable to purchase and download this book to my iPad. The only option that appears is to download the Sample. This is one of my very favorite poets. I first read his poem "The War Lover" when I was 17 and broken. He wrote of small gratitudes in a place of horror and it spoke to my own despair and the possibility of finding small things to keep myself afloat.
I have never stopped being grateful to have found his voice when I was seriously considering suicide. I chose life instead, understanding that his had been stolen from him by war, and his kind voice stolen from all of us. I am a woman of long life now, thanks to his words, which led me to other profound writings, hope, and eventually healing.
What would he have written about life as an adult, of being a criminal for loving whom he chose, the impact of the huge changes that took place subsequent to WWI, and his life as an artist? We lost a tender heart.
