Murder on Lot B Starfire Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by London Lovett Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

  • I loved this new cozy mystery series by London Lovett. This takes place during the early part of the twentieth century, in the 1923, and this mystery takes place at a Movie Studio in Los Angeles!

The main characters are Poppy Starfire and her brother Jasper. Pappy runs the Starfire Detective Agency, which she was given by her Uncle Sherman, who knew she would be a good investigator! Up to now their work has been small insignificant work really, until Anna Colton a young woman walks in and tells Poppy that she thinks that her brother Roger, a stuntman's death was not an accident. Anna asks Poppy to look into what happened after the police ruled it an accident and did not even look into it.

The book is awesome, we watch while Poppy and her brother look into the case and near the end the plot takes a quick turn! I also liked that there were other characters in the book like Poppy's neighbor who she is getting to know through letters!

Their search takes them everywhere and at one point, a dangerous situation, which makes the book so interesting from start to finish! I can't wait for more of this new cozy series and it will be an automatic buy, and it will be fun to read about these characters again!

I gave this book 5 Stars and now will impatiently wait for the next one!
  • As a mystery this book falls flat, but there are some interesting concepts that were original. The notes to the neighbor were a nice touch and it will be fun to see where that goes. The relationship between the brother and sister was touching and the personality of the bootlegger added to the humor. A likable heroine is a must for me, as I really do not want to spend time with people I don't enjoy, and this gal--I forget her name--is enjoyable. Too many references to the time period felt artificial and forced--kind of in your face. I hope that problem smooths out and the plots get tighter as the series and hopefully the writing style progresses. I finished the book, and I often discard more books than I so I will read the next installment to see how it goes, but I wouldn't recommend this to a picky reader who wanted more than a very light, quick read.
  • I love a the 1920's so this book didn't disappoint. The characters are engaging and the mystery is fun to try and solve. I'm looking forward to book 2. I received an ARC of this book and I'm providing an honest review. I enjoyed it so much that I purchased another copy.
  • I loved all her previous books and waited eagerly for each volume. This book moves way too slowly. Not enough action early on. Takes too long to develop the characters. Bogged down in describing the historical context, the physical setting. By the end the characters are a little appealing, but not enough for me to buy the next book
  • It took me a few chapters to get into this one but after that I really enjoyed it. Poppy grows on you and Jasper is a hoot. The only thing I can say that I did't care for, were the long letters she writes to her neighbor. And some of the long descriptions of things. Wasn't really needed, in my opinion. Overall a good read.
  • Absolutely, delightful cozy mystery! And a fabulous start to a new series. Such a fun read with plenty of twists throughout the entire book. I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series!
I was given this ARC free. I am volunteering my honest opinion.
  • Puppy reminds me of Fanny Ficher the dresses her friend makes for her sound so lovely you wish there were pictures. Of course there is murder, bootleggers and a Hollywood studio to also keep you amuzed
  • Enjoyed this lite mystery. The perfect balance between romance , fun and mystery. Did notice a few typos. Looking forward to the next chapter.
