Working at a dead-end retail job in the middle of nowhere can be hard. The long hours. The helpless customers. The enormous eldritch horror living deep below the building. As the only full-time employee at the 24-hour gas station at the edge of town, Jack has pretty much seen it all. But when he decides to start an online journal documenting the bizarre day-to-day occurrences, he unwittingly attracts the attention of much more than just a few conspiracy theorists.Â
With the body count steadily on the rise and a dark, ancient force infecting the dreams of everyone around him, Jack will do everything in his power to stay out of the way and mind his own business. After all, he's just a gas station clerk. It's not like he's getting paid enough to wage battle against the nightmarish aberrations plaguing his community. Besides, he already has his hands full attempting to manage all those mysterious lawn gnomes, the mutant raccoons, and the charming phantom cowboy who lives in the bathroom. Â
Based on the award-winning creepypasta by GasStationJack, Tales from the Gas Station Volume One is a love letter to the pioneers of classic horror tailored to a generation that grew up in the era of smartphones and WiFi.

"This book was darkly humorous, but [no spoilers], the ending was less than satisfying. It failed to answer big questions which made it feel incomplete. That’s a shame because otherwise it was highly entertaining."

Tales from the Gas Station Volume One Audible Audio Edition Jack Townsend Creepy Pasta Books Reviews
- So great! I laughed out loud so many times and felt genuinely chilled too! If you read the threads on reddit, and you were familiar with the original story, don’t worry this is NOT a plain old retelling.
This is fantastically thought out, cohesive and so full of new information that you will quickly forget anything you thought you remembered in favor of this fresh tale.
Can’t recommend this enough, it’ll be in everyone’s Christmas bags this year! - The last time I laughed at a book this hard was when I read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in high school. And that was 30 years ago. Seriously. This book is absurd, silly, funny, and jaw-dropping. I cannot put it down. I had read some of the stories on CreepyPasta but the book is just plain awesome.
- Long time fan of the creepypasta series. Been waiting for this since the last part came out!
- I really enjoyed this, but I’m a fan of Jack’s previous posts to various internet message boards, so if you haven’t seen them and you’re not entirely sure you want to drop ten bucks on a kindle gamble, check them out!
I definitely hope that Mr. Townsend continues to write, but I’d also like to see a slightly lower price on future novels. Great read, but I probably wouldn’t spend $10 on any other book series that hadn’t sucked me in so viciously with such hilarious and extensive sample material from the above posts. In short, I really liked this, but I do wish it was a bit longer. Though, I might just always feel that way after being introduced to such a rich world as jack’s gas station and the town it’s on the edge of. Thanks Jack. Don’t die! - This book was darkly humorous, but [no spoilers], the ending was less than satisfying. It failed to answer big questions which made it feel incomplete. That’s a shame because otherwise it was highly entertaining.
- Like everyone else here I was first introduced to this story off of internet message boards. I really enjoyed the style and the concept, so I decided to show my support and buy the book. The book takes elements from the short stories and binds it into a longer form, while introducing some unique angles. There are parts that are a bit choppy (a bit heavy on the foreshadowing, and the mysterious event in the past), but as a whole it is a very engrossing read. I feel that it all binds together quite nicely at the end, and I hope that the author releases another book. The uniqueness of the story combined with the interesting characters makes this a quality read in my opinion.
- Started reading jack on nosleep and religiously followed his posts! Needless to say when he announced a book I was excited. Well he found a way to blow me away when I read his book! Amazing writing style, great plot and overall one if my favorite books! Way to go jack!!!
- Firstly I'd like to say that I purchased this because I enjoyed the online posts that spawned this book. I've started reading a chapter a day to some friends that got interested in the book when I read them the Prologue. I appreciate the humor, mixed with intensity and darkness of the situations. It reminds me in some ways of John Dies at the End. I'm looking forward to more from this author. One last thing to remember, Don't touch the Gnomes with the green hats.
