"We are just starting to use it - myself and my 7 year old granddaughter. It is pretty easy to follow but I would give it a little higher review if it got into some shading at some point so you could give the animals more 'depth'. There is just a little bit of a gap between the finished picture and the previous instruction pictures that makes it just a bit disconcerting in trying to follow for us two inexperienced artists but we have muddled through a couple of pictures / drawings and they turned out pretty good. I suspect as we do more they will get better and that may not be such an issue. We also ordered the Draw Flowers one, but it is a much harder book to follow - so this has been a better choice for the two of us."

• I bought this book for my special needs daughter in the hope that it would introduce her in the art of drawing and help her to easily understand each step in drawing animals. And it did! A few days ago she surprised me by drawing a cat out of apples. The book also helped her in focusing on details and to understand proportions. I highly recommend the book.
• This was a gift for a young one in our family, nearly eight, who loves to draw and bit-by-bit is acquiring various techniques.
  
  I chose this book because I like the approach it encourages-- to visually analyze a subject to basic shapes, re-assemble them and gradually introduce details. Constructing with simple ovals, circles, and arcs helps her learn proportions, like how to locate the ridge of the brow and the bridge of the nose etc.
  
  To get her motivated, I tried my own hand at an animal of her choosing. I used to consider myself one of the better artists in 3rd grade, if I say so myself, so I figured my inner Da Vinci was ready after decades of incubation. Well, as my rendition of "Chunky Cat" shows, no book can turn a Cy Twombly into a Rembrandt (but I think its still decent by 3rd grade standards).
  
  But this book definitely gives a good framework and examples for practicing and thinking about animal forms. My only wish is maybe for one more step for some of the examples, before all the details are in.
• I bought this book for my 6 year old twin granddaughters. But I love it too! We are all learning to draw animals this way. One of my granddaughters is a fan of horses and she drew a passable horse based on the instructions. I will be using this book for a long time, and so will they. In fact, once you see how it's done, you can figure out how to use the same technique for different animals not in the book. Just visualize the parts of the animal and the proportions of the parts to each other. Draw the basic shapes, then add the details. I recommend this highly.
• This is exactly what I wanted. It's simple and basic and the perfect way to get started drawing animals. There's very little text which I find is a plus since I didn't want to spend on a book that had pages of explanations on drawing tools and paper, etc. This book gets right to the point with visual explanations on how to draw. It's a good place to start and when I'm comfortable I can go to a more advanced book. It's a good starting point for both kids and adults. Wish I had something like this when I was a kid!
• This book has worked very well for me. I slowly and carefully drew the step-by-step shapes and ended up with some surprisingly good results. I'm not ready to go out and draw animals in the wild yet, but the book shows how to approach somewhat complicated forms by breaking them down to easie-to-manage forms that can then be built upon and refined to give a satisfying result. Follow the simple steps; get each step done correctly, and then move onto the next step.
• There is one page of written instruction at the beginning of the book, which is all you need. The rest is just 50 pages of 6 steps for each animal. Going through these teaches you how to break the animal into shapes and build the details from there. It teaches you this without needing any text! Too many other drawing books lack intermediate steps in drawing and have too much text instruction. The best way to get better is by practicing and this books helps you do exactly that.

• I have an art degree and have been trying to get my ADHD daughter to draw more. She has a hard time focusing. This book is perfect for her because it "chunks" the drawing process into smaller shapes. It's similar to how they help her in school academically. Thrilled to have her off her iPad!

• This is an extensively researched book about the life of Hernando Colon, son of Christopher Columbus, and the Biblioteca Colombina he created in 1539. Prior to his death Hernando collected between 10,000 and 20,000 items for his library, including over 3000 books. His library was organized using a system he created for it and was the first library to use bookshelves where the books were shelved vertically. He collected any paper object that struck his fancy, including playing cards and lyrics to songs.
  
  This was a fascinating read about one man’s bibliomania and his desire to collect every book on every subject. It is well written and doesn’t get overly bogged down in the author’s research.
• This book is delicious. There's no other way to put it. It is a delightful romp through Renaissance Europe, highlighting Hernando Colon's book buying trips in various places. It is a fantasy for any bibliophile, to have the freedom and resources to travel and build one's own library at the same time. An intellectual feast not to be missed!
• I now have a special place in my heart for Hernando Colón. His collections and organizational systems are totally mind-boggling and absolutely fascinating. As a "natural son" (not the product of a legitimate union) Colón could "win legitimacy only by showing himself to be his father's son in spirit." Colón strove to achieve this distinction by accumulating massive amounts of written works, printed images, music, and plants to create a collection that would far surpass any other collection of its time. Colón also kept meticulous details in multiple ledgers and created complex organizational systems. This book dives into some of Colón's collections, examines particular items in the collection, offers insight into why some items were especially important to Colón and analyzes why some were never discussed by the collector.
  
  This book is very dense and I wouldn't recommend it to the average book lover but if you're ready to go on a deep dig then this is the book for you!
• One easily forgets what happened during the late Renaissance or sixteenth century. So many things were happening in Western Europe and the Americas and this book brings them together, beautifully. Not only did Columbus make his voyages to America but St. Peter's was being built and the Sistine Chapel ceiling was being painted by Michelangelo. Luther Nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Witternberg Cathedral and the recently invented printing press was turning out books and pamphlets galore. In the midst of this time, Hernando Colon, Christopher's illegitimate son, was living and travelling in the midst of these things and collecting thousands of books which were eventually brought to Sevilla for his library.
  
  This was truly the first information age and Hernando attempted to "googlize" it.
  
  Also interesting to me is how many of the names of the first families of Spain have continued for the last 500 years..
• I was intrigued--Columbus had a son who created the world's greatest library? Why hadn't we heard about him? What happened to all the books? How did he even embark on such a quest? I had to read this book.
  
  Hernando may have been an illegitimate son but in 1502 his father Christopher Columbus took the thirteen-year-old along on his fourth voyage to the New World. Hernando started his life familiar with lands and cultures that most of the world didn't even know existed.
  
  The book recounts Columbus's discoveries and his struggle to maintain his status and share of New World wealth for his heirs.
  
  The Admiral of the Ocean reigned as the greatest explorer for only a short time before he was dethroned. He became old news as successive explorers stole attention and acclaim. Spain sought to discredit Columbus as the first to discover the New World, desirous of keeping all the New World wealth. Hernando determined to return and solidify his father's status by writing a book about his father's life--essentially the first biography.
  
  The other part of the book is Hernando's thirst for knowledge, his obsession with collecting books of every kind, in every language--even if he couldn't read them. He collected prints and maps and art and ephemera gleaned from small booksellers.
  
  He kept lists of his books and when he lost over a thousand books in a shipwreck he knew which ones he needed to replace. He developed methods to catalog and organize the books and to retrieve the information in the books.
  
  Hernando was called upon to create a definitive map of the New World so that Spain and Portugal could finalize their territorial rights. He began an exhaustive dictionary but abandoned it knowing he could never finish it.
  
  As he traveled across Europe, Hernando came into contact with all the great thinkers whose ideas were rocking the world Erasmus, Luther, Rabelais, Thomas More. During Hernando's lifetime, Henry was looking to divorce Catherine, Suleiman was conquering the Eastern reaches of Europe, and the Holy Roman Emperor was crowned as the head of church and state. Luther's teaching had fueled the Peasant's Revolt and the anti-authoritarian Anabaptist movement arose.
  
  In his later life, Hernando settled down and built his house and perfected his library. His garden was an arboretum containing plants and trees from across the world.
  
  Hernando's achievement was remarkable. His goal to order all human knowledge for accessible retrieval was monumental. But after his death, most of his work and library were lost to neglect and time.
  
  Through the life of one man, The Catalogue of Shipwrecked Books gave me a panoramic view of the 16th c., an overview of the life and achievements of Christopher Columbus, and a biography of his son Hernando.

• Intriguing history
• I just thought it was a difficult read. I got about a quarter of the way thru and had to put it down. I was falling asleep on the train ride home. I may pick it back up again to see if it gets any better.
• I quit after 103 pages of Christopher Columbus' voyages. Still wondering about the books of his bastard son as per the book description. Returned this loser.

Ogni anno vengono scattati circa mille miliardi di fotografie al mondo. L’avvento della fotografia digitale e lo straordinario sviluppo tecnologico delle fotocamere e videocamere interne ai cellulari sicuramente ha contribuito ad avvicinare tante persone al mondo della fotografia. In ogni caso il fotoamatore 3.0 che ama sperimentare ed uscire dal recinto degli automatismi elettronici preimpostati dalla propria fotocamera, ben presto scopre che già attraverso poche, utili conoscenze più dispiegarsi davanti a sé un panorama infinito di scelte creative e di possibilità in grado di ampliare il suo mondo, il suo modo di vedere la realtà e d’interpretarla e la possibilità di superare con agio situazioni di difficoltà creativa, come ad esempio tutte quelle situazioni caratterizzate da scarsa luminosità. Per iniziare a fare questo non c’è bisogno di attrezzature costosissime, ma in verità soltanto di qualche strumento, un certo bagaglio di conoscenze e soprattutto di tanta creatività e voglia di sperimentare.

• Although I've been a consumer of whole life insurance for some time, I've always had some doubts on how valuable a role it plays in my overall financial strategy. After reading Busting the Life Insurance Lies, my doubts have been extinguished, and I know I'm on the right path to wealth and prosperity. The concepts are explained in an easily understandable approach, and I appreciated the inclusion of the "Pro-whole-life" lies to balance the topic. For those looking for the truth about Life Insurance this is the book to read; you'll be glad you did.
• As with all Kim Butler's books, I wish I had read these sooner in my financial life. This book certainly cleared up many of the misconceptions I had about life insurance. If you are in your early twenties to late thirties, you need to understand these principles now so you can reach your financial goals sooner than people like me who waited until their late sixties to get started. It will cost you less in fewer years to get where I am now at a greater cost. If you are older than 60 and have no savings, start now or plan to die with your boots on. What greater legacy can you leave for your children and grand children than a whole life policy on them from a mutual life company they can use to fund college or whatever life may throw at them? You need this book! Read it and follow the principles taught in its pages.

• The title implies that life insurance is a scam and you'll learn all the dirty little secrets of the life insurance industry. On the contrary, it becomes quickly apparent that the book is one long sales pitch for whole life insurance, the kind that life insurance agents often sell as an "investment" without actually calling it an "investment."
  
  If you want life insurance go see the person who sold you your home and/or auto insurance and ask for options.

  What do “ordinary people” know about insurance? Whatever a family member, friend, or insurance broker tells you. You don’t know all the options open to you if you do not know the questions to ask. Insurance brokers are not devious and sneaky, they have certain things they know sell well and make the most money for them, and that is what they will tell you about. A recent experience with a broker revealed this to me. I asked him about whole-life and he immediately shifted to a different venue. I went back and asked questions about whole life as a vehicle for cash flow. He was surprised! I was able to ask the right questions about insurance because I had read this book which is straight - forward plain talk about insurance and got the information I was seeking. A good read.
